Universal has confirmed that the proposed development at the former brickworks site in Kempston Hardwick will have a “transformative impact on Bedford and the UK economy.” The numbers speak for themselves — the project is expected to generate nearly £50 billion of economic benefit and create a staggering 28,000 new jobs.

Even more exciting for our community, Universal has doubled down on its commitment to hire “approximately 80% of employees” from Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Luton, and Milton Keynes. This is an unprecedented opportunity for local residents and a clear sign that Bedford is stepping into the global spotlight.

According to the current proposal, the first phase of the park would host up to 8.5 million visitors annually, with peak days accommodating up to 55,000 guests. The theme park itself would span 32.37 hectares, promising “highly immersive storytelling and theming with an international draw” and delivering a “first-class guest experience.”

This is a pivotal moment for our region, and we encourage all residents, investors, and stakeholders to make their voices heard. The public consultation is now open and runs until 12pm on 31 August 2025. It’s a unique opportunity to shape a development that will redefine Bedford’s future.
